What is community engagement and cultural planning?
Community engagement is about providing opportunities for people to participate in the decision-making, planning and development processes that affect their lives. This approach seeks to be creative and inclusive of the diversity that exists in communities.
Cultural planning is a strategic planning process that aims to facilitate partnerships between community, local government and the private sector; identify and promote community values and cultural resources; and transform community ideas, initiatives and visions into real outcomes.
Cultural planning employs a range of creative community engagement techniques, including cultural mapping. These techniques allow for an empowering process, which grows community capacity and spirit.
