Advocacy
CAN WA advocates the value of community arts and cultural development for community wellbeing, by acting as both a service and an arts producer organisation.
We do this by entering into a dialogue with all sectors and by showcasing the impact and benefits of this practice in communities.
In order to:
- Increase the profile and capacity of the community arts and cultural development sector in WA, nationally and internationally
- Mobilise government, communities and allied sectors to embrace community arts and cultural development as a vehicle for community wellbeing
- Promote community arts and cultural development as an attractive area of practice for existing artists
Our best way of advocating is to engage in best practice community arts and cultural development practice.
In order to:
- Inspire and mobilise WA communities to explore, express and grow their unique and local culture
- Facilitate and promote participation and engagement in community arts and cultural development for community wellbeing
- Actively engage in partnership development to facilitate and support community determined arts and culture activities

Here was our chance to have our say, and advocate for a future where arts and culture strongly fosters the participation and engagement of communities! Comments on the goals and strategies in the National Cultural Policy discussion paper will help to set a 10-year strategic vision for arts, culture and the creative industries.
'We want a cultural policy that fosters real and meaningful arts and cultural engagement in which people have the capacity to create their own cultural content and products. A cultural policy needs to foster a voice for the diversity of communities in Australia and in particular for Aboriginal communities to rebuild and reclaim their own cultural practices as they see fit.' CAN WA Managing Director Pilar Kasat
