It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr Yirga Gelaw Woldeyes to the Board of Community Arts Network. Yirga is a Lecturer in Human Rights at Curtin University.
Originally from Lalibela, Ethiopia, he is also a writer, researcher and poet. Yirga currently teaches postgraduate courses, and his teaching practice is informed by the importance of indigenous knowledges, diverse cultures, and social and cognitive justice. He also researches African experiences and Ethiopian traditions, and writes creatively on belonging and diasporic lives.
“The Arts build communities and give a sense of belonging and agency to culturally and linguistically diverse people. If we can engage, enliven and support diverse creative production, we give people a voice. I hope to contribute to CAN’s work in bringing diversity to WA’s vibrant arts community.” Dr Yirga Gelaw Woldeyes
