Course details

The Public and Community Arts course introduces participants to the basic concepts and processes involved in the development and management of public and community arts projects.

Participants will discuss the history of community art practices through viewing resource material, such as DVD’s, CD’s and case studies.

Ideas for participants’ own projects will be discussed and developed. This will be done through individual and group work.

Course content includes:

  • Planning for projects
  • Developing projects
  • Organising funding
  • Budgeting
  • Understanding insurance
  • Legal and occupational health and safety requirements, and
  • Promotional strategies


Assessment of competency will include oral and written questioning, case studies, worksheets, group discussion, oral presentation, and written report.
The Introduction to Public and Community Arts Course addresses six Units of Competency from Nationally Endorsed Training Packages. These are as follows:

CUEFIN01B: Develop a budget
CUEFIN03B Obtain sponsorship
CUEFIN02B: Manage a budget
CUSADM03A: Manage a project
