A great new-look Fremantle Festival kicked off on 28 October and one of the featured events was The State Collection at PS Art Space. This new initiative invited all-comers to submit works of art on a simple A4 sheet of paper that were then exhibited and sold for $20, with all proceeds donated to CAN projects.
In the lead up to the event four deposit boxes at Fremantle Arts Centre, Moore’s Building Contemporary Art Gallery, PS Art Space and CAN received fabulous and varied artworks. It had us very excited to see it all on display.
Rumours ran rife that highly esteemed artists had donated A4 pieces for the occasion, allowing punters to pick up bargain art. In total there were 145 artworks and excitement reached fever pitch at 8pm when sales began with the Fremantle Festival crew overseeing the fast and furious trading. Great attendances and sales all round with many present vowing to make their mark and be in The State Collection next year.
We would like to thank all of the contributing artists and Fremantle Festival for making this generous idea come to life!
