If you haven’t had a chance to check out the incredible artworks in The Northam Yorga’s Kwobadak Maar (Beautiful Hands) exhibition, don’t worry, there’s still time.
The display, which is featured in a shop front on Fitzgerald Street in Northam town centre, has been extended, by popular demand, until the end of January 2017.
The works on display includes beautiful woven sculptures, embroidery and print work that were all created alongside the sharing of personal stories.
The project was run in partnership with local community organisation, AVIVO, and comprised of craft and textile workshops with local Noongar woman – hence the title of the exhibition, Kwobadak Maar – beautiful hands.
The Northam Yorgas are not only enjoying an extended exhibition, they also had a successful stall at the recent Northam Christmas markets where they sold handcrafted works such as cushion covers, brooches and bags.
They raised enough funds to help to continue their craft activities next year.
If you’re in the Northam area over the festive season make sure to pop in, and check it out.
