Forest Rhythm Project in Northcliffe

CAN WA would like to congratulate the successful applicants from the September 2015 round of Catalyst funding.

Fifteen projects were funded through the Catalyst Community Arts Fund. Projects will take place in Western Australian communities in 2016, with almost half to take place in regional Western Australia.

CAN WA received $309,054 worth of funding requests and was able to fund $ 146,806 worth of community arts projects. Projects ranged in scope from small targeted participant groups to whole of community projects, engaging participants from diverse cultural backgrounds and across all ages and walks of life. Various art forms will be explored across the projects, including sculpture, film, dance, performance and visual arts practices.

Exciting projects to note include the Emu Dreaming project in the Goldfields which will involve contemporizing a traditional corrobore and the Rising From the Ashes project, a community healing project commemorating the devastating bush fires that ravaged the Northcliffe area earlier this year.

The Home Coming is a community story telling project which will explore the theme of home as it evolves through the process of migration, and will involve participants from diverse cultural backgrounds.

All Catalyst funded projects will develop creative skills and enable communities to participate in arts and cultural activities that express local culture and identity. The projects promote the values of community empowerment, social inclusion, respect for diversity and self-determination.

The next round of Catalyst funding closes 30 March 2016 for projects starting after 1 July 2016.

Guidelines and application forms for 2016 will be available in the new year. Click here for more information.

CAN WA manages this fund on behalf of the State of Western Australia through the Department of Culture and the Arts and is supported by the Mental Health Commission WA.
