History

The LiveworX Program emerged out of the Popular Culture Centre Concept, a research and feasibility partnership project between CAN WA and Murdoch University initiated 1998. The Popular Culture Centre initiative explored the viability of an arts-enterprise village aimed at providing employment, education and training opportunities for young people not thriving in conventional educational systems.

Since this time, the LiveworX Program has inspired and initiated a diverse array of arts and cultural activities with and for young people. Projects have included:

  • Research and engagement with young people and youth service providers to understand the needs, spark the ideas, and to activate projects. Including the Making Arts at Work for Young People at Risk, and Paving Pathways for Youth Inclusion the Contribution of Community Cultural Development .
  • Youth-focused cultural mapping and planning for organisations and communities including City Farm Perth, Koondoola, Medina, Gosnells.
  • Mentoring and skills development for young people and organisations in events planning and arts management including the Armadale Minnawarra Festival, City Farm Tomato Festival.
  • Coordinating youth arts and cultural related forums and workshops including the WA Collaborations Sustainable September event.
  • Publishing an annual bulletin and other publications such as the LiveworX film and research reports, advocating for, and inspiring future, youth arts and cultural activities in Western Australia.
  • Designing and delivering nationally accredited training programs, including the LiveworX Creative Pathways Program and the Fired Up program.
