Participants from the Perth Common Ground workshops held in October are jet-setting to Melbourne to perform at the Malthouse Theatre as part of Multicultural Arts Victoria’s Common Ground showcase on Saturday 9 December.
Performers Patch Miller, Judy Pham, Iffrah Malik and Ocean Trimboli will join the Melbourne Common Ground collective.
CAN and Multicultural Arts Victoria teamed up to bring spoken word poets Abdul Hammoud and Sukhjit Khalsa to Perth. The performers facilitated workshops for young people from diverse backgrounds who learnt to tell their stories through spoken word poetry and performance.
One participant said, “It was an awesome experience. It’s not often artists from CaLD backgrounds are made to feel so welcome in the arts. Thank you CAN and Multicultural Arts Victoria for making it a memorable week. I honestly never knew I could achieve so much within a week!”
CAN hosted a Perth Common Ground showcase at the end of the workshops with performances by participants Patch Miller, Judy Pham, Iffrah Malik, Amran Abdi and Ocean Trimboli.
Audiences were also treated with performances from Sukhjit Khalsa, Abdul Hammoud with music accompaniment from sisters, Dilla and Hamna Suhadji.
