Across October and November 2016, CAN ran a series of weaving, lino-printing and sewing workshops with the creative and industrious Northam Yorgas group. Supported by Avivo Northam, the group meets weekly to craft, chat and lunch.
Through the workshops the participants developed their own designs for lino prints. These original designs, including bottle brushes, kangaroo paws, bicycles, swans and turtles, tell of Western Australian nature, family and local culture. The printed fabrics have been sewn by the Yorgas into cushion covers, brooches and bags to sell at the local Northam Christmas Markets to fundraise for their 2017 activities.
Thanks to Sia Cox for facilitating the workshops.
Members of the group have also been drawing on, and exploring, their varied craft skills to each create a special story piece. These wonderful pieces will be on public display with their stories in Northam during December. Stay tuned for more info!
