Awesome Arts: 2009 Creative Challenge - CALL OUT

AWESOME Arts Australia Ltd is seeking expressions of interest from innovative, contemporary artists to work on the 2009 CREATIVE CHALLENGE. The 2009 project is called OPEN BOOK and the core concept is based on learning about a community through a kids-eye-view and providing an artistic outlet for expression.

We are seeking a variety of contemporary artists including but not limited to Writers, Film Makers, Animators, Sound Designers, Musicians, Media Artists, Graphic Designers, Photographers, Sculptors, Dancers, Physical Theatre/Drama Artists and Visual Artists. Through a series of creative workshops each community will explore their own stories while developing an interpretation of a “book”.  The young people will be encouraged to think outside the box therefore we seek artists ready and willing to lead them into unexpected territory, be that creating a written book, picture book, video book, audio book or even a live storytelling experience.

There are 10 full time regional residencies in Western Australia of 2 weeks in duration between May and October 2009. Each residency will be a collaboration between two complimenting artists providing the community with a unique and multi-discipline experience.  Artists will collaborate with young people in each community to facilitate the creation of an OPEN BOOK that will later form part of the 2009 AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things in November.

Applicants should be contemporary thinkers, effective communicators, flexible and open to new experiences, and able to collaborate with young people.

Please send a one page curriculum vitae and a short email describing how you would approach creating a contemporary “book” using your artistic practice and expressing your interest or experience in working with community and young people. A working with children check is a condition of employment.

Email Li-anne Carroll, Community Development Manager, li-anne@awesomearts.com by 5pm on 6 February 2009.
