Funding

Because CAN WA has strong links with communities throughout Western Australia, we are uniquely placed to connect communities and arts practitioners to prospective funding pools.

We do this through our Catalyst, Community Culture and Sharing Stories Funding Programs.

Catalyst

Catalyst is a funding pool that supports WA community art projects where people have the opportunity to participate, learn together and express their local culture and identity. This fund also supports individual community cultural development workers and community artists looking to undertake research or training.

Community Culture fund

Community Culture is specifically for projects that take place in regional, rural and remote communities addressing cultural planning or mapping.

Sharing Stories fund

Sharing Stories is a fund for regional projects that centre on inter-cultural dialogue.

All of these funds encourage the use of art for the expression of a community’s unique culture.

“The opportunity offered by community-based arts projects to participate in a collective activity, to meet and work with people outside a person’s usual circles and to show the group’s achievement within the local community can be a transforming experience. When individuals grow, communities benefit” – Francois Matarasso, ‘Creating Value’.
