We are so proud of our Youth Arts Worker Connie Yarran – winner of the prestigious 2016 AustralianSuper Career Kickstart Award.
Community Arts Network (CAN) nominated Connie for a WA Young Achievers Award for her outstanding work with young people in the Wheatbelt town of Kellerberrin.
“This win is so well deserved. Connie is an exceptional young role model and Community Arts Network is so proud to have been able to support her to realise her dreams, including gaining a Certificate 4 in Dance Instruction,’ said CAN’s Chief Executive Officer, Jo Metcalf.
Connie and her dancers have performed at more than 20 major community events including NAIDOC Week, Wesfarmers Centenary Concert, WA Day, Dance Week and the Beaufort Street Festival.
“These dance workshops started off as a place where all the Noongar kids in Kellerberrin could hang out, dance and yarn. I never imagined that my small idea could have made such a huge impact on mine and the kids’ lives. They have brought so much light to my life and helped me realise my dream of being involved in the arts industry,” said Connie.
