Because of her, we can.

This NAIDOC week, the faces of more than 140 inspirational First Nation women will take pride of place on the city of Perth

A series of powerful portraits, accompanied by inspirational quotes about strong women will shine on giant digital tower in Yagan Square.

Inspired by this year’s NAIDOC theme, Because of her, we can Community Arts Network has partnered with Camera Story to create portraits featuring Aboriginal women of all ages.

The images were collected during photography sittings and workshops across Perth, including Balga, Midland, Willagee, South Perth and Langford.

The photo compilation will be screened on the Yagan Square digital tower throughout NAIDOC week, however, everyone is invited to come along to a free community event to celebrate the premiere screening on Monday July 9 at 12pm.

The Middar Yorgras family dance group will perform and then extend an open invitation for all women to join them in song and dance.

Noongar singer/songwriter Natasha Eldridge will perform her original song Because of her, we can and guests will be treated to light lunch and refreshments.

CAN hopes the empowering stories of First Nation women will encourage everyone to pay tribute to the special women in their life. They can do so by joining the project through the social media tags @canwa #CANBecauseOfHer.
