Brookton Trail of Art LAUNCH

Need a health kick, with a dash of arts and culture? Or maybe you want to see some great urban art in a regional area?

Either way – you’re in luck!

On Monday 20th February, CAN WA, in partnership with the Shire of Brookton, will be launching the Brookton Trail of Art – a 3km stencil art heritage walk trail around this Wheatbelt town.

  • When: 10am Monday 20th February

Where: Rotunda, Robinson Rd, Brookton, WA

In late 2011, CAN WA brought urban artist Darren Hutchens out to Brookton, to work with students at the local high school to research and create six stencil sites around the town. Sessions covered the process of making spraypaint stencil art, such as how to use colour, shape and storytelling through this medium. Members from the Brookton Historical Society and a Noongar Elder also taught the students the Aboriginal and European history of Brookton.
From this the students designed six main sites, based on the people, history and landmarks of Brookton.

Starting at 10am on the 20th February at the rotunda on Robinson Rd in Brookton (1 and a half hours out of Perth), the launch will include a walk around the trail, with a healthy morning tea afterwards.

The Shire of Brookton also has pedometers available for a free loan scheme, so you can clock how much good work you are doing!

The Brookton Walk Trail has been funded by Be Active, WALGA, Lotterywest and the Wheatbelt Development Commission.
